Great Ocean Road Holiday - Day 3

Yay for day 3! This was the day that we officially started on the Great Ocean Road. We started the morning with Dad, Buzz and I getting up early and going for a walk. After two days of driving I needed to exercise and Buzz and Dad both decided that they wanted to come as well. When we got back to our cabins we quickly had showers, got the kids up and packed the cars again.

We knew that there were going to be lots of stops that day but didn't expect them to be quite so close together. Lachlan ended up getting a bit grumpy because he didn't want to get out of the car, walk a little bit and look at more rocks! In the end though he was happier when I let him have my camera so that he could take some pictures.

Like I said there were lots of stops and I can't remember the names of all of the places but they were all beautiful.

Here is our first stop which was the Bay of Islands.

I can't remember what this one was called but it was pretty cool.

Here is London Bridge. It used to be connected to the mainland but it crumbled one day and people were stranded over there.

Another one I can't remember!

Giving Daddy some love!

I don't know what Caitlyn and Mum were talking about but it must of been good!

This was the last stop before we got to the Twelve Apostles and Lachlan had the camera. See those dark clouds in the background that is the rain coming. We had been ahead of it all day but by the time we got to the twelve Apostles the rain had caught up with us.

See those little fingers above Lachlan's head. Neither of us even realised that Haylie was doing that until we looked at the pictures!

So we got to the visitors centre at the Twelve Apostles and is was raining pretty heavily. We need some lunch so we thought we would eat while we waited for the rain to pass. By the time we finished lunch it wasn't so bad but it's lucky we had lots of umbrella with us!

These two had raced ahead with Grandma and Poppy so these were the only pictures that I got of them.

It started to rain again as we headed back to the cars. From there we headed to our holiday house in Apollo Bay. Shortly after the Twelve Apostles we leave the coast and head inland for a bit and drive through the forest. The trees are huge and the road is windy.

It was great to finally arrive at Apollo Bay. It was nice to unpack the cars knowing that we wouldn't have to pack them again for another week.

We ran to the shops to get some supplies for breakfast and work out what to do for dinner. We decided to go to one of the pizza places on the main street. I'm not usually a fan of pizza but this one was really good.  We then headed back to the house where we unpacked and settled in for the night.

Here are some of Dad's pictures that he took from that day.

We saw lots of signs like this, but this one was the first one that said you may DIE! We thought it was quite funny!

Great Ocean Road Holiday - Day 2

Our second day was another day of traveling and exploring. After a quick breakfast we packed up the cars again and headed off to see some sinkholes and start our view of the coast.

On our recent trip to Mount Gambier we had tried to find a sinkhole called Hells hole, but it wasn't very well sign posted so we missed it. We decided to try again and this time we found it. There still weren't many signs and we weren't sure we were in the right place until we turned a corner and found this.

The water is really black and yucky looking. I don't know why anyone would want to jump in there and swim but according to the sign people do.

Then it was off to the Caroline sinkhole we went.

Love this crazy girl!

As much as I don't like pictures of myself I did try to make sure that I was in some pictures too!

Piccininnie ponds!

After Piccininnie ponds we were exploring places that we hadn't visited before. We headed towards Portland first and checked out the blowholes and the petrified forest.

Unfortunately the tide wasn't right so we didn't really see the blowholes but this was our first view of the coast.

We also discovered that it's not really a petrified forest it's how the weather affects the rocks. Either way it looks pretty cool.

Planking!

We then headed to Portland for a quick lunch before heading off again. We would have loved to stay and explore Portland more but we didn't have time. Maybe next time.

Anyway next we were off to Port Fairy. We walked around Griffiths Island. It was very, very very windy! We could see the waves crashing on the rocks but because the windy was going to other way we couldn't hear them crashing, it was really weird!

On the other side of the Island is this lighthouse. Haylie nearly got blown off the walkway a few times because the wind was so strong.

Buzz in all his weirdness!

After our walk we got back in the cars again to head to Warranbool where we would be stopping for the night. It wasn't a very long drive but the car was getting blown all over the road because of the wind. After the GPS taking us some back way we finally made it to the caravan park. Once we got sorted out we headed out to dinner at a nice little restaurant that we found.  We made a quick stop at woolies before heading back to our cabins for the night.

We didn't really get any time to explore Warranbool at all. When we arrived it was nearly dark and we left fairly early in the morning as well. We would love to go back again and spend some time there.
