Motivation

Life lately has been . . . . . .  stressful. I guess that's why it's been a little while since I did a decent blog post. I've been stressed and that stressing has made me very unmotivated and a little bit depressed.

But in the last few days I've decided that stressing about things doesn't really help. It just makes you feel miserable. I can't really do to much to fix the problem but I can change my attitude. To help with that I decided that I needed some new goals and ideas to keep myself motivated.

One of the areas of my life that has suffered lately has been exercising and eating right. I've still been doing both of those things but I had been fairly slack and not working as hard and I knew I could. So last week I became a runner!

When I told Buzz he laughed at me and said that he would like to see me run! Well I'm no athlete, that's for sure, and I'm sure that I look pretty funny while running but I can say that I'm enjoying it so far.

The first thing that I did as a runner was to find an app on my phone to help me with this goal. I found one that helps you go from a non-runner to being able to run 5k's in eight weeks. Using intervals of walking and running  you slowly get to the point of being able to run the whole 5km's with no walking.

Of course, I have Haylie with me every day and running with a stroller is pretty tricky, especially when just starting out, so I decided that we would go to a park, with an oval so that I could do my exercise while Haylie plays on the playground. Win, win!

The app says that you only need to do it three times and week so on the other days I'm going to continue with my regular walking.

So far I've done it three times and it's been pretty easy. But I'm not expecting it to stay that way!

Anyway . . . hopefully you'll be hearing a bit more from me about the goings on in our family!

Dedicated and Determined

As I walk or drive our neighbourhood I see this lady quite often. I first saw her while I was on a walk with Haylie. We had just gone up and down a big steep hill and were on our way home. As I walked past her I was amazed and in awe.

She was a mum and was pushing a stroller. It was just your regular kind of stroller, nothing fancy. In it she had one child, probably about 2 years old. Sitting on top of the stroller, near the handle, was another child, probably about 3 years old. As if that wasn't enough she was also carrying a backpack baby carrier in which she had another child, probably about 1ish.

I couldn't believe it. I walk regularly with Haylie in a stroller. It is a jogging stroller and so has good tyres, is lightweight and is made for walking. Haylie isn't a big child but it still gets pretty heavy and hard to push sometimes, especially up a hill.

That was exactly the direction she was going. She had to go up a hill, down a steep hill and then up the other side. I struggle just to get Haylie through that part and she was heading there with three children all attached to her somehow.

I have seem her a few more times around the neighbourhood and my mum, who lives not far away has also seen her a few times.

She obviously has a goal and nothing is going to stand in her way. Most people with three children under the age of three would give up on the whole loosing the baby weight until their children were a bit older. Maybe go for a walk when their partner is home, get someone to watch the kids while she exercised, or just plain not bothered.

I almost feeling like stopping and calling out encouraging words to her. She is definitely Dedicated and Determined.

I have totally slacked off in the exercise and eating healthy department. I reached my goal and past it a while ago and since then I have really lacked the motivation to stick with it. Don't get me wrong I definitely won't ever get close to what I weighed to start with but it is easy to get slack. I guess I need to set some new health goals so that I can get my motivation back.

I don't think that I would have every been as dedicated and determined as the lady with three children, pushing and carrying her children just to get some exercise!

Not a morning person

I am totally not a morning person. I love my sleep. On the rare occasion that I wake up before my alarm I will lay in bed until it goes off. I even set my alarm five minutes early so that I can lay in bed for an extra five minutes instead of having to jump straight out.

Why then did I wake up at 5:50am this morning? And why, when I woke up at 5:50am, did I decide to actually get out of bed? Two reasons. First, my brain was ticking over and I knew I was going to be going back to sleep. Second, I had an appointment this morning right when I usually exercise and I knew that if I didn't get up and do it then I probably wouldn't do it. And I really wanted to exercise. You see I've been working hard to lose weight for 10 months now and I am so close to reaching my goal.

Anyway, so at 5:50am this morning I got out of bed, put on my exercise clothes and snuck quietly into the lounge room. After 30 minutes on our new cross trainer and a 20 minute pilates DVD, I was showered and dressed all before my alarm usually goes off at 7:15am.

I was actually surprised how nice it felt to have accomplished so much before the kids had even woken up. Oh, the things that I could do if I could just manage to pull myself out of bed a little earlier in the day. Oh, but I love my bed, especially when it is cold outside and my bed is nice and warm and comfortable and peaceful.

Haylie on the other hand is what I call a 'ping' person. She is up with the sun and happy to do so. She doesn't need time to wake up slowly or ease into the day. No, from the moment her eyes open she is going and doesn't stop until her head hits the pillow at night. She has learnt though that mummy doesn't like to get up as early as she does so she will go turn on the tv or go wake up one of her siblings.

I don't think I'll ever be a real morning person but hopefully I can motivate myself on occasion to get up a bit earlier and start my day with a bang!
